About:

Atkins Removals & Storage

John Atkins’ journey in the transport industry began in 1965 when he bought his first truck, laying the foundation for a general freight business connecting Launceston and Evandale. However, his roots in transportation run deeper, as his father, Jack Atkins, established a trucking enterprise in 1946 after his military service, specializing in hauling various goods like hay bales, wool bales, and more. Responding to demand for weekend furniture removals in northern Tasmania, John shifted his focus, giving rise to Atkins Removals & Storage. Operating from their family residence in Invermay, Launceston, the business thrived, marking its first interstate removal in 1978, with John’s wife Linda now actively involved.

The growth of Atkins Removals & Storage necessitated a relocation to Cormiston Road, Riverside, featuring storage facilities and a loading dock, along with the acquisition of storage depots in Melbourne and Sydney to accommodate increasing interstate removals. To support the expanding workload, the company invested in additional vehicles, including prime movers and trailers. In 2006, a significant milestone was reached as the company moved to Lilydale Road, Tasmania, after acquiring Jack Atkins Transport from John’s sister, Lynette, ensuring the maintenance of high-quality service standards and efficient handling of customers’ furniture and belongings.
