Established in 1981, Britannia emerged with the goal of offering inclusive and competitive shipping solutions to small to medium-sized family-owned removal businesses across the UK. The aim was to empower these businesses to compete on an even playing field with larger, established specialist firms primarily located in London. Prior to Britannia’s inception, smaller provincial movers seeking to provide shipping services to their clientele often had to subcontract their shipments to London-based competitors, subject to predetermined rates for bulk consolidation.

The founders of Britannia introduced a cooperative model designed to operate with minimal overhead costs, attracting four other reputable businesses to join their endeavor. Leveraging the central location of one of the founders in Stourbridge, West Midlands, where modern facilities were available at affordable rates, the decision was made to establish the new enterprise there. This location served as the primary receiving center for the consortium, becoming the focal point for operational growth and development over the subsequent 12 years.
