Established in 1999 by Jim Harlin and Tom Crider, the Community Pantry emerged in response to the pressing need for nutritious food resources in Gallup and its neighboring regions. Initially, it operated from a modest structure situated on the city’s west side until relocating to its permanent location on Hasler Valley Road in 2003, where it now stands as a modern facility housing administrative offices, a food distribution center, and expansive outdoor spaces dedicated to gardening and greenhouse initiatives.

With its central hub in Gallup and a branch in Grants, NM, the Community Pantry caters to the nutritional needs of communities across Northwestern New Mexico, extending its reach to encompass all of Cibola County. Over the years, it has evolved from a grassroots effort into a vital institution committed to combating food insecurity through its comprehensive services and community-driven approach.
