In 2012, Clay initially joined a Gainesville-based moving company to earn some extra money on the side. His first assignment involved lugging numerous heavy book boxes from one third-floor location to another amid freezing, rainy weather. This challenging experience left him questioning whether he’d ever repeat such a task. However, driven by financial necessity, Clay persevered.

Over the course of several years, Clay steadily progressed within the company. He found himself taking on more significant responsibilities, including leading large-scale moves, managing phone inquiries, and conducting in-home estimates. In 2018, Clay made a pivotal decision to chart his own course in the moving industry and established Later Gator Moving LLC, marking the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey.
